Unlike other models of its era, the 1962 DiaStar was a magnificent work of art that broke new ground. Its unusual shape and extremely durable tungsten carbide case became signature features that have captivated audiences for decades. This timepiece undoubtedly embodied the motto of Rado's founders: "If we can imagine it, we can make it. And if we can make it, we will!" In 2022, to mark the 60th anniversary of this extraordinary watch, the case was replaced with Ceramos™ instead of hard metal. Beyond its revolutionary origins, the DiaStar is an evolving icon. Its design has progressed in the true spirit of Rado – Master of Materials.

The latest edition continues its pioneering streak, alongside other product lines, and complements Rado 's creative concept , "The Art of the Skeleton," by incorporating the high-quality R808 automatic caliber. This version is finished in anthracite gray and accented with gold elements, creating a sublime interplay of visual contrasts. The magnificent and elegant movement can be admired through the sapphire crystals on the front and back of the watch, without any worries, as the new DiaStar Original Skeleton boasts an 80-hour power reserve. A non-magnetic Nivachron™ balance spring ensures the extreme precision and reliability of this movement, which has been tested in five positions.

While this new model reflects the character of its predecessors, its current form is more refined, and its contours clearly reveal a precise design ambition. The original DiaStar was undeniably masculine. However, this latest model has reached a certain maturity: it remains masculine while being highly original and elegantly comfortable. Its open case and impressive skeletonized R808 movement bring a lighter, more airy feel to the new DiaStar Original, offering a perfect design contrast with the Ceramos™ bezel. The darker hue of the movement is further accentuated by its colored elements and two-tone hands and hour markers. These components add a rich contrast to a captivating composition that any watch enthusiast will appreciate. The floating hour markers and the white Super-LumiNova®-coated hour and minute hands, for enhanced legibility even in the dark, reinforce this open design.

No detail was overlooked during the design phase: from the ingenious shape of the seconds hand to the magnificent faceted sapphire crystal with a stunning square pattern on its outer surface and an anti-reflective coating on the inside, a nod to a previous model. The very comfortable stainless steel bracelet features three rows of H-shaped links alternating polished and brushed elements. It is fitted with a triple folding clasp in stainless steel for added security.
